Marathon Training tips and Running tips

Although this was my first marathon and I am just a beginner marathon runner, the tips that I received from my marathon running friends is priceless. Without their advice for my marathon, I never would have been able to finish the race. These are some of the tips that I received to run my first marathon:

Marathon Clothing:

I initially was wearing some of my old cotton t-shirts when I went out for my marathon training runs. At first, this was fine, however, as my marathon training runs got longer and longer, I started to have difficulties. These t-shirts would hold the sweat and as I ran, they would rub and chafe. Here are some tips to solve these problems.

Tip1: Ditch the cotton: Cotton shirts and shorts will maintain moisture and keep it against your body rather than moving it away. This is basically what causes the chafing. Marathon runners today have more options than ever before of shirts that will move heat and moisture away from your body helping you to always feel dry and comfortable. Besides the chafing, this will also benefit you because you will spend less energy cooling off your body. Here are some shirt choices that are better than cotton while training for your marathon.

Marathon Running Shoes:

When I first started training for the marathon, I was wearing an old pair of running sneakers. My feet started to hurt and I was given one of my most important tips:

Tip2: Get a quality pair of running shoes and replace them after 6 months or 350 miles: I went to Marathon Sports where I got a knowledgeable person that looked at my feet, watched me walked and then helped me pick out a pair of sneakers for my marathon training. They even let me try them out by running down the street. After that, I was able to go online and buy the same shoes after 350 miles of training. I also purchased a new pair about two weeks before the marathon and wore those to break them in for the race. Do not wear a new pair of sneakers for your marathon without breaking them in first.
