Week 6 - Saturday - March 4, 2006 After my inability to run much more than 2 miles two days ago, I set out to prove that it was just a fluke. I spent extra time with the heating pad warming up my legs and knees as well as extra time to stretch. I was nervous and but determined to get in at least 8 miles, if not the entire 12. After two miles, both of my calves where burning. This was odd, because the areas that had caused me the pain on Thursday did not hurt at all. My calves, however, hurt enough to make me stop running. This was a major crossroad. If I couldn't finish more than two miles again today, I felt that I would really be setting myself back. Do I just quit now? I spend some time at the two mile mark and really stretched my legs and again started running. The calves felt much better after the stretch. I made it 3 more miles before taking a small walk. I made it 4 more miles before taking a small walk. At the ten mile mark, I started walking about 100 yards then running quarter miles. I finished my 12 miles and my legs felt pretty good. I saw three temple members along the way that all cheered me on! Thanks Sam, Joanne and Warren. I really appreciate all of the support that everyone has been giving me. Thanks! 12 miles not done! |
